eDEX-UI is a fullscreen desktop application resembling a sci-fi computer interface. It's not a shell enhancement or replacement.
eDEX-UI looks like it would be a shell replacement, but it's a program you can run, tinker around with, and when closed, you will return to your Windows Desktop. eDEX-UI requires installation when it should have been a portable app.
eDEX-UI runs the shell of your choice in a real terminal and displays live information about your system. We found that it hogged a fair amount of CPU and memory, hogging all 4MB of our virtual machine, and made it run very slowly. We recommend an i5 or i7 processor and at least 8GB of RAM.
It was made to be used on large touchscreens but will work nicely on a regular desktop, laptop, or tablet because it also recognizes keyboard inputs.
